Deadliest Catch

Not sure if you are aware of that show on the Discovery Channel, but it is a fav of mine. As a synopsis, the show is of true reality (not a reality show that is staged) where they risk their lives in order to catch all kinds of crab. I love it because it is real, honest, and the fact that they lay their lives on the line in order to make a living.
As I watch these guys, it reminds me of the rawness of the fisherman that Jesus took in as disciples. For some reason, we have really sanitized who they were and how they acted when they were first around Jesus. Simon Peter revealed some of that rawness when he denied Christ with cursing. It was the old fisherman in Peter coming out.
My concern is that we don't sanitize the former saints so that they become surreal rather than real and relevant. As I watch the Deadliest Catch, I think over and over how Jesus would have loved to have hung out with these guys. They are risk takers. They are raw and they hold nothing back. No wonder Jesus adopted so many fisherman to become disciples.
I guess my point is that our faith needs a little more rawness to it. A little more earth and a lot less of angels playing harps. A lot more servitude and less platitudes. A lot more risk taking and less calculations so that we play everything safe. Faith is not for the timid.
